These buttery, garlicky, slightly umami noodles are so delicious and (best of all) quick to assemble! The longest part of this recipe is just waiting for the water to boil. Typically seen at Vietnamese-Cajun seafood restaurants, you can now easily make these at home.
I love noods so much. If you asked me to choose between noodles or rice, noodles win every time. Give me ALL of it. I almost wish I didn’t learn how to make this recipe because it’s dangerously good. Takes me back to eating at Vietnamese seafood boil restaurants with gloved hands and a giant pile of shrimp.
What Type of Noodles to Use
For best results, I recommend using chow mein egg noodles like they do at restaurants. You could try substituting with spaghetti, but if you can get your hands on chow mein noodles it’s MUCH better.
What To Pair With Asian Garlic Noodles?
These garlic butter noodles are classically paired with seafood, like shrimp or crab. But honestly, the noodles are packed with umami flavor without being overpowering so it can pair with so many things. Steak, chicken, tofu…what can’t you pair with these noodles? If you want to add some vegetables, try shredded cabbage, carrots, or spinach and toss it with the noodles. YUM!

Asian Garlic Noodles
Ingredients
- 14 ounces chow mein noodles
- 4 quarts water
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 8 tablespoons butter
- 2 green onions, chopped seperate white and greens
- 8 cloves garlic, minced
Instructions
- Gather the ingredients.
- Cook the noodles according to package directions. For my noodles, I boiled 4 quarts of water over high heat. Once boiled, I added in the chow mein noodles and give it a stir. I cooked the noodles for 6 minutes and then strained in a colander.
- In a small bowl, mix together oyster sauce, fish sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, and pepper. Set aside.
- Put the same pot used for boiling the noodles on low heat. Add the butter. Once melted, add the garlic and the whites of the green onion. Cook for 30 seconds to a minute, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add in the sauce mixture. Cook for 30 seconds.
- Add in the strained chow mein noodles. Turn off heat and toss to combine.
- Transfer to a bowl, garnish with tops of green onion. Try not to inhale the noods all at once. Enjoy!
